McCoy and Thomas Sports was established in 1954 and joined the Hunting and Fishing New Zealand franchise in 1994. McCoy and Thomas Sports Hunting and Fishing New Zealand is unique to the franchise as it sells a full range of general sports equipment as well as hunting and fishing products.
McCoy and Thomas Sports now has 5 stores in Northland from Warkworth to Kaitaia and they all belong to the Hunting and Fishing New Zealand franchise which has 31 stores nationwide.
The Whangarei store offers the largest range of hunting and fishing products in Northland and the hunting department has over 200 new and second hand firearms. To compliment this is a massive range of hunting and outdoor apparel along with a great selection of shooting accessories.
The store stocks all leading brands of fishing tackle and has has an impressive range of rods, reels and terminal tackle. You will also find a comprehensive camping section along with a great general sports section covering racquet sports, ball sports, technical apparel, footwear and much more.
The store also has the largest range of home fitness equipment in Northland stocking a wide range of treadmills, exercycles, cross-trainers, rowers and strength equipment which they both sell and hire out. Back in 2006 an additional showroom was opened up above the store which is totally dedicated to home fitness products and offers a spacious area to view and try equipment before purchasing.
The store is serviced by long term staff members who are active, knowledgeable sports people. Carl Watkins- Co-Owner/Manager has a real passion for the great outdoors and hunting, and has worked in the sports industry for over 20 years. Jason Searle-Assistant Manager is a very keen fitness and sportsman, and has been at the Whangarei store for over 15 years and has worked in the sports industry for over 22 years.

Carl Watkins - Managing Director
Carl has a passion for the great outdoors, has worked in the sports industry for over 20 years. His main interests are deer hunting, duck shooting, fishing and clay target shooting.
Brad Keith - Senior Sales
Brad is a keen hunting and outdoors sort of person, who at any free weekend is in the bush chasing a variety of game from possums to goats and deer. Brad has been at the Whangarei store for two years and specialises in selling all that you need for a successful hunting trip.
Craig Widdup - Senior Sales
Craig has been with H&F for 5 years and is a keen sportsman who enjoys getting out there and making the most of the weekends.
He is one of Northlands top squash players and coaches some of Northlands top junior players.
Craig has only in the last 2-3 years started getting into the bush and looking for that elusive Sika stag.
He is involved in most aspects of the shop and can help you with anything from general sports to fishing gear and picking the perfect rifle for your next hunting trip.
Jason Searle - Store Manager
Jason has been with McCoy's for over 15 years starting not long after they joined the H&F franchise. Jason has played alot of representative squash and tennis, although these days it's more of the tennis.
If not on the court you will find Jason out on the golf course, a sport he is very keen on. And if there's enough light left in the day Jason enjoys to get out for a snapper fish often cleaning up with 'catch of the day'.
Gerald Foster - Senior Sales
Gerald has been with H&F for 7 years, Gerald enjoys getting out on the rocks or boat for a spot of fishing. Gerald is passionate about all types of fishing and can sort you out with the perfect set up for whatever type of fishing you are doing.
