With 1400sqm of floor space, Hunting & Fishing New Zealand in The Hub, Botany Downs is the largest and most comprehensive store of its type in New Zealand - stacked full of everything you need for the outdoors. The custom fit-out of the premises is worth the visit as we have used rustic and recycled timbers to enhance the natural feel and make your shopping with us a pleasure.

For all of your saltwater fishing needs there is a comprehensive range of all the leading brands for eveything from beach to the boat and from kids staters sets to game gear.

With the freshwater fishing market growing, there is a dedicated fly fishing section. All other aspects of freshwater fishing are also covered also, including all the associated accessories and gear.

The hunting section and designated gunroom are a must see for every enthusiast at our new store. The purpose built gunroom will stock over 200 firearms on display including rifles, shotguns and air rifles - with a purpose built air rifle range where you can test fire a rifle before making a purchase decision.
The store has plenty to offer in the camping and tramping section, with full size tents, gazebos and shelters set up for viewing, complimented by a huge range of gear and accessories.

Ben Staessens - Manager

Ben has proven his ability in the role of Manager at the Takanini store over the past 2 years. He is excited about the Botany move and the great shopping experience it will provide for Aucklanders.

In his spare time Ben is a keen Hunter and Fisherman favouring local areas for fallow and the central plateau for Red and sika deer hunting. He hunts ducks in the Fish & Game Blythen block near Mercer, chases pheasants and enjoys the odd round of sporting clays. When it comes to fishing he lists his prefered methods as softbaiting, straylining, slow jigging - in fact any form of fishing!

Alan Young - Sales

With 11 years in the trade, Alan has a wide knowledge of all aspects of hunting & fishing but his preferred speciality is fly fishing. On most occasions when he is not involved in work, he will be found on the riverbank flicking around a fly rod. Alans other outdoor pursuits are saltwater fishing and duck shooting.

Russell Summers - Co-Owner

Botany is the 5th store Russell has been involved with. This includes start up success stories at Wellington, Tauranga and Rotorua. Russell is a family man who loves nothing better than kicking back on a camping holiday on the Coromandel, fishing, diving and relaxing. He's hunted deer all over NZ, plus ducks and upland game – recently shoots over a Fish & Game pond near Pokeno.

Wayne Fairhurst - Co-Owner

Wayne co-owns the Taranaki store and along with Russell, saw the need for Hunting & Fishing to be a major force in the market in Auckland. Wayne has a passion for ensuring that the customer feels good when making a purchase and ensures that all his staff carry that same attitude. Wayne enjoys saltwater fishing, in particular chasing big game and fishes off both coasts of the North Island during the season. He also duck shoots, deer stalks, and busts a few clays when he can.

Pat Geenty - Sales

Pat has been our part-time helper at Takanini for sometime now and comes to us here at Botany knowing that the bigger store will certainly be a challenge to satisfy all of our customers. Pat has a vast knowledge in the Central North Island and is also a keen surf caster.

Bill McLeod - Sales

Bill has come to us from Beretta NZ where he was involved in sales to the trade. For those that get to know Bill, you will appreciate his vast knowledge for the firearms industry. Bill is still actively involved in deerstalking, duck shooting and is a regular visitor to the gun club. He also enjoys the odd spot of saltwater fishing.

Matt Church - Sales

Many local anglers will recognise Matt as the friendly former face behind Eastside Bait & Tackle Ltd. Matt brings his wealth of knowledge to our saltwater division. If it has a tail and swims in the Hauraki Gulf, Matt can show you the right tackle and techniques to successfully target your chosen species.

Ian Rollerson - Inwards Goods/Sales

Ian loves fishing and is always keen to get out on the boat or kayak and target snapper in the Hauraki Gulf. His preferred method of fishing is to flick around a few softbaits. Ian is also an accomplished diver and loves to look for scallops and crayfish around Coromandel. He has now found the passion for hunting and regularly hunts deer and ducks during their respective seasons.

Afra Azimi - Sales

Afra has joined us after 6 successful years in the appliance trade. He has been a keen hunter for the past 14 years and during this time has gained a lot of knowledge with regards to reloading and the requirements of specific calibres.
He brings with him a desire to be an important member of our team and is prepared to offer plenty of advice to those interested in hunting.
