Fly and Gun Hunting & Fishing New Zealand is located at the very centre of the North Island in the town of Taupo.

The central North Island is a Mecca for trout fishermen and deer stalkers. Consequently our sales strengths are in fresh water tackle, firearms and hunting apparel. In store we carry an extensive range of fly rods including brands such as Sage, Kilwell and CD Rods. Our fly selection is comprehensive and our in store fly fishing guides can provide you with current fishing conditions, best fly selections and directions to the best fishing locations. We also do well representing major brands such as Penn and Shimano along with a range of salt water terminal tackle.

Taupo is surrounded by several forest parks including the Kaimanawa, Kaweka, Pureora and Whirinaki which makes us a stop off point for hunters. The Kaimanawa and Kaweka forests are home of the Sika deer in New Zealand and offer some of the best hunting anywhere is the world. Red deer can be found in good numbers in the Pureora and Whirinaki Forest Parks as well as wild pigs. In store we carry a very comprehensive range of centrefire ammo including Winchester, Federal, PMC, Norma, Remington and Hornady. We also issue hunting permits for the Kaimanawa Forest Park in store.

Come in and check out our range of hunting and casual clothing. Brands include Swazi, Stoney Creek, Huntech and of course our own range of Hunting and Fishing fleece clothing. At Fly and Gun Hunting & Fishing New Zealand our staff can 'walk the walk and talk the talk'. We are out there doing it type of people and can offer good, reliable advice having already field tested many of the 'toys' in store.

4 times larger than our previous store; great parking right at the door; turn off into Spa Road at Taupo's State Highway 1 roundabout, then take the first right into Gascoigne Street. We're the first shop on the left.

Mike Stent

He has been owner operator of Fly & Gun since 1992. He has a passion for the outdoors and is a very keen fly fisherman and deer stalker. Mike has been a registered professional flyfishing guide for the past 13 years and has also represented New Zealand in flyfishing competitions at World, Commonwealth and Oceania levels. His flyfishing trips have taken him as far away as the USA, Scandinavia and Australia. Salt water flyfishing is also a passion having hosted many trips to places such as The Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Northern Australia. Living in Sika country Mike is a keen deerstalker and regularly gets out into the back country in search of that elusive 8 point trophy stag. Ducks, geese and pheasants are on the target species list in season. The problem is that there just isn't enough time in the day for everything. Balancing play and work is always a challenge.
