Spotlight on Waikato Hunting & Fishing NZ

By Gary Fraser - Waikato H&F NZ | 7 April 2011
A month out from the waterfowl opening weekend sees us 3 years in our new location at 417 Te Rapa Road, Hamilton. At the time of undertaking our fit out we wanted to create something unique in the Waikato that would give our customers both a destination that was enjoyable and stocked with goods that meet their needs. Indeed we have been heartened that our shop environment has seen many more family groups shopping with us. We are still receiving positive feedback from customers both new & old that what we have done was excellent and we have many visitors, both local and from overseas that call in for a visit.

The shop has been set out in such a fashion that we have designated areas for the outdoor enthusiast. Complementing a comprehensive range of stock we have both male & female staff that are out there doing it. Whether it is fresh water or salt water fishing targeting schnapper, terakihi, kingfish, marlin, tuna, etc and all forms of techniques whether conventional fishing, soft baiting, jigging, live baiting, trolling lures we have staff who are passionate about their fishing and know what gear is best suited for all occasions.

For the hunter we have staff who hunt deer, pigs, small game such as possums and rabbits and waterfowl. Whether it's choosing the right rifle, air rifle, air pistol, or shotgun for the novice or experienced hunter or what decoys or caller to use down to tactical target shooting and clay birds our staff have that knowledge.

Because our hunting and fishing interests take us outdoors all our staff has a good understanding of the type of clothing, footwear, camping gear, survival equipment, navigation equipment, knives, slingshots, bait and much more and all at Hunting and Fishing New Zealand's competitive pricing.

With the excitement of the waterfowl hunting season building we are proud of the fact that we have one of the largest selection of decoys, callers, shot shell both in lead or steel and sub gauge and shot guns in the Waikato area. Our popular Duck Shooters night was held in store on Wednesday 6 April with our guest speaker, Kingsley Field, giving an insight into the development of waterfowl hunting in New Zealand with the introduction of the Mallard Duck and the development of shot guns and their ballistics over the years. We also had speakers on predator control to show that by getting rid of these vermin how it will enhance the duck and other bird life breeding seasons. The evening was a great success with over 100 people turning up to be both entertained and informed about waterfowl hunting.

Our Hunting and Fishing Beretta shoot took place as usual at the Waikato Clay Bird club on Sunday 10 April. This shoot has become one of the most popular on the clay bird circuit in New Zealand and attracted just over 250 shooters. The weather was good and the shooters enjoyed the two 40 target simulated fields set up by the Waikato Clay Target Club. We had two gun draws, the Beretta Citizen anniversary special was won by Richard Flower and we had an extra gun draw of a Stoeger M2000 which was won by Kelvin Lalich.
