Major Support for Hunting Aotearoa on TV

By | 2 March 2009

Getting a TV company to screen hunting was impossible, until The Maori TV channel came into existence. Hunting Aotearoa was a top rating hit from Series 1. Currently Series 4 is screening - catch it on Thursday nights at either 9-30 or 10-30pm (timing is dictated by live basketball). In 2008 Hunting Aotearoa was a finalist at the Qantas TV awards, and this success has led to Maori TV doubling the next Series 5, from 13 to 26 episodes. Before Hunting Aotearoa could take up this opportunity it needed a committed sponsor to step up to the higher level of funding. Hunting & Fishing New Zealand answered that call. We have always believed that hunting on TV introduces the sport to more people who will get 'out there doing it'. TV also brings into the home guns and hunting in a way members of the public can see these pursuits are good healthy outdoors activities, and that harvesting tasty game meat is a close to nature way of life in which NZ has a proud cultural heritage.
