GERBER: VITAL KNIFE & GATOR 154

Hey guys JE Wilds here, as we all know the ‘Roar’ is approaching fast!

Now’s the time to be prepping your hunting kit for the upcoming season. One of the most important pieces of equipment you will need is a good quality knife. he choice can be confusing as the steel in most blades looks the same in-store, but you can save a lot of time and uncertainty by going straight to the Gerber range. If you’re wanting a ready to go, off the shelf, purpose-built hunting knife, Gerber has it! Gerber is a trusted brand that’s been around for a long time. The blades are made of quality steel that both holds an edge and is easy to sharpen.

My favourite model for all round hunting is the iconic Gator 154, an all-purpose folding knife made in the USA, that costs $119.99. It comes with a belt sheath but can also be kept in a small, handy pocket in your hunting backpack. It’s an ideal size for field dressing an animal you have just made a good shot on! Great for skinning and breaking down meat with the drop-point blade shape and compact size. The Gator name comes from the non-slip handle design – straight up it’s the best bang for buck out there.

Another good option to carry at this time of year is the Gerber Vital, it’s a folding replaceable blade knife. If you enjoy the razor-sharp cutting that the exchangeable blades offer, then this model is one you will definitely want to check out! While you could process a whole animal with it, I’d suggest you take it as a compact folding back-up knife, but it will come into its own if you are fortunate enough to take a trophy stag worthy of head-skinning. That razor sharp scalpel type blade will be ideal for the tricky cuts around the eyes and nose in particular.

Good luck to everyone out there for safe and happy hunting this season.
